A Microsoft Word Count Lesson

To celebrate the 100th day of school for 2009, we will write a 100-word essay!
The thought of counting each and every word makes our eyes bug out!
Is there a better way to get a word count? YES!

Open Microsoft Word

To begin a new document,
Open/File/ New Blank Document

               OR

The easy way, Control + N

 

Type a paragraph about yourself.

Click on Tools found in the Menu Bar.

Move your mouse down to Word Count and click.

Notice the other information given in the chart.

 

Do you want to know how many words are in your document?
Of course you do, It’s easy!
Highlight the area; now use the Word Count tool.
Try it with one sentence in your paragraph.

           A Word Count Toolbar is also available. Give it a try using these steps:

1.    Click View in the Menu Bar.

2.    Move your cursor down the menu to Toolbars and across the arrow leading to the submenu.

3.    Continue moving along the submenu until you reach Word Count. Click.

4.    The Word Count Toolbar is placed on your screen. It can be moved if needed by dragging the title bar. 

5.    Continue typing to add more words to your document.

6.    Click the Recount button on the Word Count Toolbar to see the new total.

7.    Wow! You Rock.
